Altra’s Olympus 5 is the newest version of their plushest trail running shoe. This is a zero-drop shoe designed for all-day comfort on the trail.
This shoe uses Altra’s signature FootShape, which they claim gives your foot more space to sit naturally and addresses biological differences in men’s and women’s feet. The outsole on this shoe uses Vibram Megagrip rubber, which Altra shares provides good grip on both wet and dry surfaces. They combine this withTrailclaw lugs that are strategically placed for maximum grip. This shoe has the most cushioning of any Altra trail running shoe and features a breathable mesh upper.
The Olympus 5 has mixed reviews, with long-time Olympus users generally preferring previous versions of the shoe. Positive reviews loved the level of cushioning and shared that they were able to stay on the trails all day without thinking about their feet. They also shared that the outsole was very grippy. Negative reviews complained that the shoe ran small, with people ordering a half or even full size larger than their usual shoe size. They also thought the shoe was narrower and stiffer than other iterations. Multiple customers reported lugs falling off the outsole. Altra was aware of this issue and shared that it has been addressed.
